The LA Gay and Lesbian Center is where I’m getting my T. They do others things as well though.

Pros:

  • Set up appointments via email
  • File paperwork via fax/scanning
  • You don’t have to be from the area to get testosterone
  • The experience as a whole was extremely trans-friendly with the exception of the phlebotomist. The file they have is under my preferred name despite me not legally changing it yet.
  • They accept PPO insurance and have a sliding scale if you don’t have insurance or if they don’t accept yours.

Cons:

  • Literally, they have one doctor that administers the T, and she lives in San Francisco.
  • I had to wait 6 months for my first appointment
  • It seems a bit unorganized. I was told not to eat for a while before my appointment, and the secretary said they stopped telling patients that since some had passed out in the passed. This is indeed a way to scare a patient during his first appointment.
  • It’s still pretty expensive with the sliding scale. $165 for the first visit and $100 for the second (the second appointment, by the way, comes much sooner than the first).

Overall, I give it a 4/5. The trans-affirming environment outweighs the cons, especially if you have never experienced it before.

Note: You do NOT need a letter from a therapist for this location.
